They include the number of individually flying small birds recorded in the thermal imaging video frames from the camera with the telephoto lens (file: Rebke_et_al_BiolConserv_telephoto_lens_Data.csv) or the wide angle lens (file: Rebke_et_al_BiolConserv_wide_angle_lens_Data.csv) summed over each 15 minutes block of light or darkness. These data were collected in autumn 2013, spring 2014 and autumn 2014 near Hörnum in the south of the island of Sylt, which is situated in the German part of the Wadden Sea. Please refer to the paper for details on the data collection and experimental setup. The columns give the following information: Birds: Number of birds recorded per observation block (i.e. 15 minutes block of specific light or darkness) Period: Migration period (1: autumn 2013, 2: spring 2014, 3: autumn 2014) Night: Unique identifier for the migration night BlockCombi: Unique identifier for combined 30 minutes light/darkness blocks (i.e. 15 minutes light block combined with the following 15 minutes block of darkness) Stars: Visibility of stars (i.e. stars were predominantly seen in video images from minutes with recorded birds within a combined 30 minutes light/darkness block (tie was classified as visible stars)) (0: stars were not visible, 1: stars were visible) Light: Light on/off (Off: block of darkness, On: block with light) Encodings: 20 encodings for light and another encoding for darkness (00: light off, 01: red+full+continuous, 02: green+full+continuous, 03: blue+full+continuous, 04: yellow+full+continuous, 05: white+full+continuous, 06: red+half+continuous, 07: green+half+continuous, 08:blue+half+continuous, 09: yellow+half+continuous, 10: white+half+continuous, 11: red+full+blinking, 12: green+full+blinking, 13: blue+full+blinking, 14: yellow+full+blinking, 15: white+full+blinking, 16: red+half+blinking, 17: green+half+blinking, 18: blue+half+blinking, 19: yellow+half+blinking, 20: white+half+blinking) Intensity: Light intensity (Off: light off, full: full intensity, half: half intensity) BlinkingMode: Blinking mode (Off: light off, cont: continuous light, blink: blinking light) Colour: Light colour (Off: light off, red: red light, green: green light, blue: blue light, yellow: yellow light, white: white light) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Files: Rebke_et_al_BiolConserv_audio_recordings_Turdus_iliacus_AddData.csv Rebke_et_al_BiolConserv_audio_recordings_Turdus_philomelos_AddData.csv Rebke_et_al_BiolConserv_audio_recordings_Turdus_merula_AddData.csv These are additional data files used for the paper. They include the number of audio files with bird calls summed over each 15 minutes block of light or darkness for the three most common species in our data set: Redwings Turdus iliacus (file: Rebke_et_al_BiolConserv_audio_recordings_Turdus_iliacus_AddData.csv), Song Thrushes T. philomelos (file: Rebke_et_al_BiolConserv_audio_recordings_Turdus_philomelos_AddData.csv) or Common Blackbirds T. merula (file: Rebke_et_al_BiolConserv_audio_recordings_Turdus_merula_AddData.csv).
