Description

This is the data set used in the study "The Tough, the Wet and the Hidden: Evolutionary Strategies of a Tropical Tree in a Changing Environment" (Zigelski et al.). We used the polymorphic species complex Syzygium guineense s.l. (Myrtaceae) to investigate the interrelations between genetic structure, spatial distances, phenotypic variation and environmental factors. Using STRUCTURE analysis of dominantly coded SSR data, and subsequent PCoA, PERMANOVA, PAM clustering, RLQ and fourth-corner analyses, we were able to identify multiple ecotypes that represent distinct evolutionary strategies to past environmental changes in South-Central Africa.
