Abstract The approximation problem for multivalued functions on the complex plane is discussed. A sub-class of Hermite-Padé approximants is defined and the supporting theory is developed, inspired by the Riemann monodromy theorem. It is plausibly shown that the method can resolve confluent singularities. The application of the method tested on realistic series gives promises for the method.
