  • Data for: An expert-based approach to assess the potential for local people engagement in nature conservation: the case study of the Niassa National Reserve in Mozambique
    This excel spreadsheet data is from online and self-administration survey with 55 experts, engaged in the design and implementation of conservation measures in Mozambique. More specifically, it is about the Niassa National Reserve (NNR), the largest Protected Area (PA) in the country and third in Africa. The survey included four sections of both compulsory and non-compulsory questions, mostly in closed ended Likert-scale. In the first section, experts were asked about the main practices that threaten conservation in the NNR and actors who are directly or indirectly responsible for each practice, reasons for local people’s involvement with those practices. The second section was about the effectiveness and limitations of the current compensation measures implemented to engage local people in conservation. In the third section, respondents were asked to select new measures to enhance the current conservation status and engage local people more effectively in conservation. The last section was about the socio-economic profile of respondents. The survey was conducted from June to September 2017. In the first sheet are the raw data, while in the second are questions and the respective codes Data are provided for public use and can serve as a benchmark for further collaboration in order to conduct more comprehensive research, comparative analysis as well as panels data can be derived. This data can also have application in other fields such as statistics, mathematics and computation.

GIS-digitised points of each handling event for all five species, split into sexes, with geography coordinates and land uses / land covers descriptions of 20-m diameter buffers around each capture point. Format for the multivariate analyses program CANOCO [3]. Sheet 11: Adults habitat use, 50 m buffers. As above, but larger buffers around each capture point. Sheet 12: Larval habitats of Melitaea aurelia and M. britomartis. 5-m diameter buffers around randomly set (n = 105) and pre-selected according to prior occurrence of ovipositing females (n = 40) points withing the localities.

  • Data for: Invasion risk of clumping and running bamboo species in the continental United States
    Appendix data table with answers to weed risk assessment questions for 47 species of bamboo accompanying the manuscript titled "Running bamboo species pose a greater risk of invasion than clumping bamboo species in the continental United States". We also include information on rhizome habit, score, conclusion, and number of questions answered. Spaces were left blank when there was no information available to answer question, "unk" was entered if there was not enough data to answer or the guidelines indicate "unk" instead of blank space, and "?" when conflicting evidence provided (per published guidelines Gordon et al. 2010).   • Microclimate Species Distribution Models for Plethodontid Salamanders in Great Smoky Mountains National Park
    This dataset includes microclimate species distribution models at a ~3 m2 spatial resolution and free-air temperature species distribution models at ~0.85 km2 spatial resolution for three plethodontid salamander species (Demognathus wrighti, Desmognathus ocoee, and Plethodon jordani) across Great Smoky Mountains National Park. We also include heatmaps representing the differences between microclimate and free-air species distribution models and polygon layers representing the fragmented habitat for each species' predicted range. All datasets include predictions for 2010, 2030, and 2050.
