Description

* Production and applications of microbial enzymes for valorization of low cost agro-industrial residues is a novel concept in present day biotechnological process. A group of microbial enzymes including amylase, cellulases, keratinase, tannase, glutaminase has produced and applied in different fields. Biofuel including ethanol and butanol, oligosaccharides, oligopeptides, etc are unique products of microbial enzyme treatments. * Traditional fermented foods are the mine of nutraceutical and very popular worldwide. The traditional process has scientifically standardized to make these food more hygienic and attractive for consumers. The concept of 'beneficial food' has also validated in experimental model animals. The healthy food grade microbes from these foods are characterized and explored as probiotic organisms and their efficacy have been tested to ameliorate different life-style related diseases. * Antimicrobial peptides are now highlighted as an effective alternative of commercial antibiotics. A group of antimicrobial peptides from microbes and insects have isolated, characterized and identified their mode of action to make them suitable for clinical applications.
