Knowledge and Attitudes about Transgender Healthcare: Exploring the Perspective of Hispanic Medical Students

Description

The scarcity of transgender-specific health education and training among medical schools’ curriculums are possible contributor to transgender healthcare barriers. We investigated self-reported knowledge and attitudes about transgender healthcare in a sample of medical students (N=141) from the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine. Our study reveals that even though there is willingness to treat transgender patients among University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine medical students, there are limitations in their knowledge and training regarding specific healthcare topics.Strategies to improve medical student knowledge and training about these topics must be considered.
