... BACKGROUND HIV continues to be a public health concern in Kenya. Out of an estimated 40 million people the national HIV prevalence among adults aged 15-64 years was 7% as of 2007 representing an estimated 1.4 million people living with HIV (Republic of Kenya 2009). According to the Kenya AIDS Indicator Survey (KAIS) and Demographic Health Surveys (DHS), significant differences in HIV prevalence occur throughout the population and geographic locations. Women are at a greater risk (8.4%) than men (5.4%), and there is a greater than 15-fold variation in HIV prevalence among provinces, ranging from 1% in North Eastern province to 15.3% in Nyanza province (KNBS and ICF Macro 2010; National AIDS Control Council [NACC] 2009a; Republic of Kenya 2009). Despite wider provision of HIV testing services, and a high level of knowledge about HIV testing (95% of adults and 88% of youth know where to get an HIV test) (KDHS 2008-9), only 72% of adult Kenyans report having ever tested for HIV and received their results (KAIS, 2012). STUDY RATIONALE Oral HIV self-testing presents an opportunity to increase testing coverage by addressing barriers to HIV testing in VCT and facility based testing (i.e. limited access to VCT centers and hours of testing, HIV-related stigma and discrimination). Population Services International, Kenya (PSI) was awarded by the International Initiative for Impact Evaluation (3ie) and the National AIDS and STI Control Programme (NASCOP) to conduct a formative study on potential HIV oral self-test kit users, and messaging for HIV oral self-test kits. The purpose of this study was to identify willingness to use oral self-test kits, and factors associated with the potential adoption and use of oral HIV self-testing kits to inform future HIV self-testing pilot progr ams. The objectives are to determine likely users of oral HIV self-test kits, incentives to use a self-test kit, and identify key messages and approaches that could increase demand for the kits. The evidence from this study will inform the design and implementation of oral HIV self-testing pilot projects throughout Kenya; and national policy regarding the availability, cost/subsidies, quality control and procurement. METHODOLOGY This mixed-method study was conducted between November and December 2013 in two provinces/counties of Siaya (rural) and Mombasa (urban). The study population included 782 sexually active men and women aged 18 to 49 from the general population (GP); 100 men who have sex with men (MSM), and 100 female sex workers (FSW).

The National AIDS & STI Control Programme has a policy framework on HIV oral self-testing but the policy guidelines are yet to be adopted in the country as there is inadequate information on whether their use would be acceptable and if so, who is likely to seek oral HIV self-testing, what are the incentives of different types of individuals to self-test, what messaging and other methods might be effective for increasing the acceptability and demand for self-tests, particularly among groups th at this approach might want to target. PSI implemented a cross-sectional exploratory study to identify populations most likely to access oral HIV self-test kits and associated incentives for self-testing. The data will also explore how this information can inform the development of messages and other relevant approaches to increase demand for oral HIV self-testing among potential consumers. The main objective of this study is to inform the design and implementation of pilot projects to increase the use of HIV oral self-testing in Kenya. This will involve identifying factors associated with potential uptake of HIV self-testing among the general and key population groups. The specific aims are to: 1) Determine likely users of oral HIV self-test kits among the general population and key populations at risk in urban and rural settings; 2) Identify incentives for using oral HIV self-test kits among the general population and key populations at risk in urban and rural settings; 3) Identify and test key messages and approaches to increase demand and use of oral HIV self-test kits. A mixed method study that includes of a quantitative component [a closed-ended questionnaire survey] and a qualitative component [an open-ended questionnaire interviews] with individuals from the community is proposed. The study groups will be as follows: 1) General population women (18-49 years) and men (18-49 years; 2) Key population groups FSW (18-49 years) and MSM (18-49 years)

This workshop will cover best practices for collecting and organizing research data related to the goal of data preservation and sharing. We will focus on best practices and tips for collecting data, including file naming, documentation/metadata, quality control, and versioning, as well as access and control/security, backup and storage, and licensing. We will discuss the library’s role in data management, and the opportunities and challenges around supporting data sharing efforts. Through case studies we will explore a typical research data scenario and propose solutions and services by the library and institutional partners. Finally, we discuss methods to stay up to date with data management related topics.

... The purpose of the Tracking Results Continuously (TRaC) survey among CFSW is to provide evidence for monitoring and implementation of PSI/Myanmar's HIV prevention and risk reduction Program. The data gathered through the 2008 TRaC survey will be presented in the PSI Research Dashboard and the PSI Dashboard PERForMance Review. The Dashboard is a set of standardized tables for segmenting populations, monitoring trends on key population and service delivery indicators, and evaluating program effectiveness.

... The objective of the study is to provide an insight into Dr. Imranato to help us to influence her behavior towards increasing adoption of FP among her clients. The study will also provide an insight into the factors, personality traits, environmental challenges etc. that influence the performance of individual health service providers. Between October2010 and January 2011 Greenstar and PSI Pakistan will conduct a FoQus study to gather information in the above mentioned areas. In-depth interviews will be used to collect data. Only one interview will be conducted with each provider due to resources and a belief that there will be minimal benefits to conducting more than one interview with this target group. It is felt that the providers will be able to articulate their views in one sitting.
