<dc:title>Data for: Drivers of Diplomatic Disagreement: Implications for Sectoral Trade</dc:title>
    <dc:publisher>Mendeley Data</dc:publisher>
<dc:description>This repository contains the replication data and Stata code for the manuscript "Drivers of Diplomatic Disagreement: Implications for Sectoral Trade." The dataset comprises a multi-country, multi-sector structural gravity panel covering 167 countries over the annual period between 1988 and 2020.

The primary data files include bilateral measures of diplomatic disagreement (derived from United Nations General Assembly voting records), bilateral sectoral trade volumes across nine distinct sectors, applied preferential tariffs, and standard structural gravity variables. The dataset also includes the instrumental and institutional variables utilized in the empirical analysis, notably formal defense alliances, defense cooperation agreements, free trade agreements, economic sanctions, joint intergovernmental organization (IGO) memberships, and joint World Trade Organization (WTO) memberships.

The provided Stata replication script (estimation.do) contains the code required to reproduce all summary statistics, correlation matrices, first-stage geopolitical driver estimations, and second-stage structural trade estimations. The code executes both the linear two-stage least squares (2SLS) models and the instrumental-variable Poisson pseudo-maximum likelihood with high-dimensional fixed effects (IV-PPML-HDFE) models utilized in the baseline estimations, subsample analyses, and robustness checks.</dc:description>
