<dc:title>THE CATEGORY OF PRECISION IN SCIENTIFIC TEXTS</dc:title>
    <dc:publisher>Mendeley Data</dc:publisher>
<dc:description>Abstract. This article examines the linguistic nature, formative factors, and means of expression of the category of precision, one of the important communicative and semantic features of scientific texts. In a scientific text, precision is not limited to the clear expression of an idea; it is also associated with the consistent use of terms in a single sense, the definition of conceptual boundaries, the concrete presentation of quantitative indicators, the precision of referential relations, and the explicit expression of causal and other logical relations. The study distinguishes lexical-semantic, terminological, morphological, syntactic, referential, quantitative, and textual forms of precision. Using examples from Uzbek scholarly research, particularly studies in dialectology, lexicology, ethnolinguistics, and lexicography, the article demonstrates several features of concretizing scientific information. It also analyzes how the use of abstract, vague, and excessively generalizing units affects the degree of precision in scientific texts. The results show that the category of precision can serve as an important criterion in the production, editing, and linguistic examination of scientific texts.
Keywords: scientific text, category of precision, scientific style, scientific discourse, terminological precision, lexical precision, referential precision, quantitative precision, logical precision, term, scientific exposition.
