  • The essay identifies the notion of eclecticism as pivotal to Dorfles’ aesthetic research. A plurality of skills that has been traced since his formation and that generates the identikit of Dorfles as a restless explorer of contemporary languages: Dorfles as a critic, Dorfles as a scholar of aesthetics, Dorfles as a researcher of costume, industrial design, fashion, Dorfles as a painter and ceramist, Dorfles as a poet, Dorfles as an amateur musician, and even before all of that: Dorfles as a doctor and psychiatrist.,Materiali di Estetica. Between standard, neostandard and substandard: changes in current newspapers The paper documents recent language trends in newspapers, both printed and online, related to grammar. In recent decades, there has been a growing communicative and linguistic differentiation between newspapers, largely due to political orientation; this mainly concerns the lexicon and syntax/interpretation and, to a lesser extent, grammar. This latter shows a differentiation above all in relation to the use of direct speech, while political orientation, which is decisive for lexicon and syntax, impacts very little on morphosyntax.,Italiano LinguaDue, V. 11, N. 1 (2019),

  • This article focuses on the comics of the Austrian artist Nicolas Mahler. Selected comics from Franz Kafkas nonstop Lachmaschine (2014) will be analysed as ‘minimalistic form’ and inter-spatial phenomena. In Mahler’s so-called ‘graphic anecdotes’, inter- and transmediality become evident in a variety of ways: in the form and organization of anthology, the construction of pseudo-epigraphs, and the accentuation of ‘transition’ and ‘in-between’. As they address and reflect on the position of comics in the literary field, they also contribute to the current discussion about graphic narrative,Studia austriaca, Vol 27 (2019): Studia austriaca XXVII (2019),

  • After 26 years of confrontation, the uneasy issue of the administrative border between Chechnya and Ingushetia has been resolved, even if between street protests. In the judgment of 6 December 2018 the Russian Constitutional Court was asked to resolve a rather thorny issue, namely the legitimacy of the agreement, reached following 26 years of negotiations between the (internal) Republics of Ingushetia and Chechnya, that established the administrative border. The applicant, the Head of the Republic of Inguscetia, asked for confirmation of the legitimacy of the acts despite the decision of the Constitutional Court of Ingushetia.,Nuovi Autoritarismi e Democrazie: Diritto, Istituzioni, Società (NAD-DIS), V. 1, N. 1 (2019),

  • The Michael Mahzor, produced in Germany in 1258, one of the earliest illuminated Mahzorim, is a two-volume prayer book containing liturgical poems for the Holy Days and the 'four special Sabbaths,' when liturgical additions are made to the regular weekly chapter reading during the month of Adar. The manuscript is copiously illuminated, with animals adorning the opening words of the liturgical poem, and contains a militant iconographical plan, including knights and fighting warriors. The relationship between text and image in illuminated manuscripts is important, because they need to be 'read' together in order to understand the illuminations in their immediate and general context. The novelty of this study is in a holistic reappraisal of the manner in which we think about illustration in connection with text. This paper addresses three scenes containing animals in the Michael Mahzor: El Mitnase, Mich. 617, f. 4v; Zakhor, Mich. 617, f. 11r; and Kol Nidrei, Mich. 627, f. 48r. The first two examples discussed here are the illumination of El Mitnase for Shabbat Shekalim, the Sabbath beginning the month of Adar and the piyyut for the pericope Zakhor for the Shabbath that immediately precedes Purim, which is celebrated on the fourteenth of Adar. The third is the liturgical formula Kol Nidrei for Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement. The article suggests that the animals in the last two scenes represent the four kingdoms mentioned in chapters seven and eight of the Book of Daniel. Jewish exegesis commonly interpreted these beasts as symbols of four historical kingdoms. In addition, aspects of animal symbolism in the illuminations – such as hunted and hunting animals – should be considered in the context of medieval Jewish-Christian polemics. By examining the scenes together, we can speculate as to the greater plan the patron might have had in mind when ordering this manuscript. The article seeks to understand how the Jewish patrons envisioned themselves and their neighbors, through a prism of images, piyyutim, and the writings of Hasidei Ashkenaz.,Interfaces: A Journal of Medieval European Literatures, N. 5 (2018): Biblical Creatures: The Animal as an Object of Interpretation in Pre-Modern Christian and Jewish Hermeneutic Traditions,
