The presentation describes the impact of the institutional discourse produced by the organization of Francophonie on the aesthetical canon of “littérature francophone”. In the first part of the presentation, there is a comparison between the history of Francophonie and the history of littérature francophone, the analysis of key actors such as Léopold Sédar Senghor who mixed political discourse with literary comments before dealing with the difference between francodoxie and francophonie. The main focus is on the ideological discourse on French language.

This is a presentation that I held at the Postgraduate Supervision conference in Stellenbosch, South Africa on 26-29 March 2019. The presentation is a result of a research study where we interviewed experienced postgraduate supervisors about their challenges in supervision. The presentation can be used to trigger reflection on practice as supervisor

The presentation deals with the notion of national literature in France. When we refer to national literature, we think about a literary patrimony that characterizes the emergence of a nation. The presentation questions the relation between literature and politics as if a literary patrimony could consolidate the emergence of a new nation. The history of Romance languages shows that there was a disconnection between literary genres, languages and national borders. Here, the presentation focuses on the emergence of national literature in France to see how some literary genres have confirmed the political power in terms of loyalty. The presentation will interest students and scholars who analyze the relation between literature and politics. Is literature an imaginary justification of the idea of nation?

The presentation examines the way the writers of the First Nations in Canada deal with the issue of survivance which implies a collective resilience. It is based upon a comparison between the first novel of Naomi Fontaine, Kuessipan(2011)and the poetry of Rita Mestokosho collected in How I see Life, Grandmother, Eshi Uapataman Nukum, Comment je perçois la vie, grand-mère(2011). Both writers share the paradigm of decoloniality with a minimalist aesthetics to express the beauty of the Innu way of life.

Experimental sounds used by Alvarsson, J. J., Wiens, S., & Nilsson, M. E. (2010). Stress recovery during exposure to nature sound and environmental noise. International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health, 7(3), 1036-1046. doi:10.3390/ijerph7031036 The sound pressure levels of the noises were higher, equal or lower than the sound pressure level of the nature sound. The experimental sounds were selected from a large database of binaural recordings of environmental sounds. The nature sound was chosen to be more pleasant than the three noises, including the ambient noise of lower sound pressure level. The four experimental sounds are described below. (1) Nature sound. A mixture of sounds from a fountain and tweeting birds. The average sound pressure level was set to 50 dB (LAeq, 4 min). (2) High noise. Road traffic noise recorded close to a densely trafficked road. The average sound pressure level was set to 80 dB (LAeq, 4 min). (3) Low noise. The same noise as (2), but set to a lower average sound pressure level, 50 dB (LAeq, 4 min). (4) Ambient noise. A recording from a quiet backyard, with a constant low level ambient noise, mainly caused by ventilation systems of the buildings surrounding the yard. The average sound pressure level was set to 40 dB (LAeq, 4 min).
