Aim of the study: In-house cardiac arrest is a common event associated with high morbidity and mortality. Fortunately, an optimal clinical response can improve patient outcomes. Advanced cardiac life support (ACLS) guidelines represent evidence-based management of in-hospital cardiac arrest, but numerous studies show that compliance is suboptimal. We developed an electronic decision support tool and investigated whether the use of the tool improves adherence to ACLS guidelines. Methods: A prospective randomised trial was conducted at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Unannounced in-situ simulations of in-hospital cardiac arrest were performed in intensive care unit settings over 15 months. Code teams assembled from physicians and nurses on clinical duty at the time of simulation were randomised to either the electronic decision support tool (eDST) or a control group. Simulations were video recorded and graded for adherence to ACLS guidelines. Results: Use of the new tool resulted in an absolute 10% increase in the percentage of correct clinical actions between the control (n=16) and intervention (eDST; n=11; 73% vs 83%; p=0.001). Use of the tool also resulted in a reduction in median number of errors committed per simulation (2 vs 1, p<0.001). Conclusion: In this study, an electronic decision support tool improved team performance as measured by increased adherence to ACLS guidelines and a reduction in errors. Future research should investigate optimal implementation of the eDST into routine clinical practice and observed impact on both process and outcome metrics.

The Indeterminate Domain (IDD) proteins are a plant specific subclass of C2H2 Zinc Finger transcription factors. Some of these transcription factors play roles in diverse aspects of plant metabolism and development; however the function of most of IDDs is unknown and its molecular evolution has not been explored. Here, Prochetto and Reinheimer reconstructed the evolution of IDDs during plant land conquest. They found that IDDs arose from the common ancestor of Streptophyta. Once in land, IDDs experienced a rapid radiation that accompanied key morphological, physiological and biochemical transitions required in plant terrestrialization. The authors present a solid phylogenetic framework of annotated IDD genes which links genetic and functional knowledge from model to non-model species.

The data shows the effects of a sadness induction on the Rubber Hand Illusion. Our experiment was composed of three experimental groups. One group saw neutral pictures in the beginning of each trial, one group saw subliminally presented sad pictures and one group saw supraliminally presented sad pictures. Following the picture presentation, the Rubber Hand Illusion task was performed. Before and after the stimulation, the proprioceptive estimation of the left index finger was taken and a questionnaire on the subjective illusion strength (Botvinick & Cohen, 1998) was surveyed after the post-proprioception measurement. We performed the picture task and the rubber hand illusion task 4 times, each time applying a different stroking style. Stroking was carried out either synchronously (SY) or asynchronously (AS) combined with either slow (3cm/s) (SL) or fast (30cm/s) (FA) stroking speed. At the baseline and after each picture task, participants completed the SAM scale (Bradley & Lang, 1994). In the end, demographical information was surveyed, as well as a questionnaire on dissociative symptoms (FDS; Freyberger et al., 1999).
