Abstract: Data presented here were collected during the cruise SO254 with RV SONNE from Auckland, New Zealand to Auckland, New Zealand (January 26th, 2017 - February 27th, 2017). In total, 12 underwater light profiles were collected at 27 stations, using a free-falling hyperspectral light profiler. The system used was a SEABIRD HyperPro II (SN 099, former Satlantic), equipped with a irradiance sensor to measure downwelling irradiance (Ed, SN 262) and a radiance sensor for upwelling radiance (Lu, SN 227). A reference unit was attached to the ship to measure the above water irradiance (Es, SN 223). The sensors were calibrated by the manufacturer and validated prior to the cruise with a reference lamp. Data were recorded with the SatView software (V 2.9.5_7) and processed from raw to Level1, 1b, 2, 2s to Level 3a using the ProSoft Processing software (V 7.7.19_2). Measured data were binned in 1 m depth intervals. A dark correction was made automatically based on shutter measurements by the instrument. Measurements with a tilt higher than 5° were not taken into account during processing. Spectra were interpolated to 1 nm intervals. For each station the hyperspectral profiles for each parameter cover the wavelength range from 400-700 nm, for Ed and Es in [W/m² nm], for Lu in [W/m² nm sr]. For Ed, Lu and Es descriptive statistics are given including min, max, mean, median and standard deviation of the tilt and the photosynthetically active radiation PAR [µmol photons/m² s (sr)], integrated from 400 - 700 nm. To allow an assignment of above water conditions to the respective depth measurements, Es spectra were given as a function of depth, recalculated from data Level2s. Abstract: Not Available Category: geoscientificInformation Source: Not Available Supplemental Information: Preparation and analysis of nutrient samples: For this comparison of nutrient data, three aliquots of one water sample were processed as indicated below, resulting in one set of samples for the Alfred-Wegener-Institut Znetrum für Polar- und Meeresforschung (AWI), one for Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel (Geomar) and one for Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht Centre for Materials and Coastal Research (HZG). Each set of samples was than analyzed in the respective laboratories. 1) AWI (I. Bussmann, I. Stimac) Water samples were drawn from a Niskin bottle into 0.5 L Nalgene bottles which had been rinsed with sample water. From these bottles water was filtered directly into 15 ml Falcon tubes and frozen at -20°C. Filters were syringe filters, SFCA, 0.2µm, 25 mm, Fisher Scientific. Samples were analyzed with a QuAAtro autoanlyzer according the manufacturer's instruction: for nitrite with the method No. Q-070-05 Rev. 4, for nitrate and nitrite with Method No. Q-068-05 Rev. 6, phosphate with the method No. Q-064-05 Rev. 4, ammonia with the method no. Q-080-06 Rev. 2, and silicate with the method No. Q-066-05 Rev. 3. 2) Geomar (M. Nehir) Water samples for inorganic nutrients (nitrate/nitrite, phosphate, and silicate) were taken from ta Niskin bottle. During sampling, latex gloves were worn to avoid contamination. A pre-rinsed Pall AcroPak 1000 Supor Membrane 0.8/0.2 μm filter (with prefilter) was used to transfer samples into acid washed (10% HCl) 50 ml polypropylene conical centrifuge tubes from Jet Biofil. Samples were kept frozen (-20 °C) until the laboratory analysis, then analyzed at GEOMAR using a SEAL QuAAtro AutoAnalyzer (SEAL Analytical) that is based on the colorimetric methods. 3) HZG (G.Flöser, H. Rust) Samples were filtered with syringe and filters (Spartan 30/0.2 RC 0.2 µm. Whatman) into 50 or 100ml PE bottles. The samples were frozen at -20°C and stored frozen until analysis. Samples were analyzed with an Autoanalyzer (Seal X-Y-2 Sampler AA3, Seal Analytics) according to the manufacturer's instructions: for nitrite with method G-062-92 Rev 2, for ammonium with method G-171-96 Rev 14, for phosphate with method G-170-96 Rev 1 and silicate with method G-177-96 Rev 8. Abstract: Sea ice observations were routinely conducted by the Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute (AARI) group aboard AARI research vessel "Akademik Fedorov" during MOSAiC leg1 compaign, 25 September - 20 October 2019. Observations were conducted in accordance with AARI methodology. Special feature of the methodology is continuous estimation of sea ice parameters both along the track of navigation “on the route” (within the area around the ship of 2-3 widths of the hull) and “in the region” (within the range of eye visibility), with separation of recording into the zones with homogeneous ice characteristics [Manual on conduction of ice air reconnaissance / Rukovodstvo po proizvodstvu ledovoi aviarazvedki, 1981]. Observations were recorded in a form of an electronic log-book in accordance with the WMO Sea Ice Nomenclature (WMO-No.259) and WMO SIGRID-3 exchange format (SIGRID-3: A vector archive format for Sea Ice Georeferenced Information and Data - JCOMM TR-23, 2014). Column names, where applicable, correspond to SIGRID-3 naming convention for sea ice polygone field names (Tables A-2, B-2, B-3, C-2).
