Curricular Contributions to Primary Health Care Learning in a Colombian Medical Program: Documentary Analysis, Qualitative Codebook, and Aggregated Survey Data (2023–2026)
Description
This dataset supports a qualitative case study examining the contribution of curricular processes to Primary Health Care (PHC) learning in a 12-semester Colombian medical program (215 credits). The study combined documentary analysis of the Program Educational Project (PEP), the curriculum map, and 52 course syllabi with stakeholder perspectives from one director focus group, three faculty interviews, and two student interviews, conducted between July and August 2026. Aggregated student survey data from a 2023 institutional curricular review are also included. The dataset was generated to enable transparency, replicability, and secondary analysis of how PHC is declared, enacted, and experienced within a single medical curriculum. The institutional identity and all participant identifiers have been anonymised.

Steps to reproduce
Text for the "Steps to reproduce" field Open 07_README.txt for the file inventory. Then complete the following verification checks using the deposited spreadsheets. Step 1 — Verify the documentary analysis (File 01). Open 01_documentary_analysis_matrix.xlsx. Count the rows marked "PHC-related = Yes": you should find 16. Count all course rows: you should find 52. Confirm the credits of the 16 PHC courses sum to 27. The resulting proportions are 16/52 (30.8%) and 27/215 (12.6%). Step 2 — Confirm the coding structure (Files 02 and 03). Open 02_codebook_deductive_inductive.xlsx and count the codes: you should find 26 (20 deductive, 6 inductive). Open 03_coding_frequency_matrix.xlsx and confirm that key codes (e.g., "Community practice") appear with a ✓ in the faculty and student columns, indicating cross-source triangulation. Step 3 — Trace codes to themes (File 04). Open 04_thematic_map.xlsx. Confirm that the seven themes are supported by the listed contributing codes. For example, Theme 1 ("Longitudinal presence, horizontal fragmentation") should be linked to codes D1.1, D1.2, D1.3, D6.1, and D6.2. Step 4 — Calibrate coding judgment (File 05). Open 05_example_coding_excerpts.xlsx. Cover the "Code ID" column, read each of the twelve excerpts, and assign a code. Then reveal the recorded codes and compare. Agreement on 9 or more of the 12 excerpts indicates that the codebook is clear enough for independent application. Step 5 — Verify the survey descriptives (File 06). Open 06_aggregated_survey_2023.xlsx. Confirm the following values: concept of PHC (n = 26) — integrated services 26.9%, broad approach 23.1%, basic care 15.4%. Professional interest (n = 38) — mean 8.05/10; 86.8% scored ≥7; 97.4% scored ≥6. Expected outcome. All five checks should pass. The full reproduction covers the documentary classification, the codebook, the thematic structure, and the aggregated survey statistics. Interview and focus group transcripts are restricted for participant privacy and are not required for these checks.
