Description

A petrographical study of 139 thin sections of samples representing the facies variations observed in the studied sedimentary successions. Skeletal and non-skeletal grains were classified, and the overall texture was identified following the Dunham classification (1962). A biostratigraphic analysis of ammonites and benthic and planktic foraminifera that have been extracted from 33 mudstone samples supported the sedimentary and stratigraphic analysis. These samples have been washed after treatment with diluted hydrogen peroxide and sieved into multiple fractions (from 0.2 to 1 mm). The extracted foraminifera were identified using a Leica EZ4 binocular microscope.
