Quality of life among individuals seeking fertility treatment in Uganda_dataset
Description
This dataset contains 332 survey records from a hospital-based cross-sectional study of fertility-related quality of life among adults seeking fertility care in Kampala, Uganda, conducted from May 2024 through January 2025. Participants were recruited at Kawempe National Referral Hospital (public; 175 records) and St. Francis Hospital Nsambya (private; 157 records). The study was designed to characterize fertility-specific quality of life and support analyses of its association with demographic and infertility-related characteristics. The CSV has 71 variables. Participant characteristics include interview date, study site, age/age category, gender, marital status, occupation, education, whether the participant has biologically related children, number of children, primary versus secondary infertility, and duration of infertility in years and categories. Fertility-related quality of life was measured with the 24-item Core Fertility Quality of Life (FertiQoL) questionnaire. Item responses are coded on a 0–4 scale. The file also includes reverse-coded item fields and derived raw and 0–100 scaled scores for the emotional, mind–body, relational, and social domains, together with overall Core FertiQoL scores; higher scaled scores indicate better quality of life. The optional Treatment FertiQoL domains (environment and tolerability) were not populated, and their associated score fields are blank. Missing values in number of children occur among records reporting no biologically related children. Participant identification numbers are study codes and should not be treated as globally unique; analyses should use the full record and site information as appropriate. The dataset can support descriptive, comparative, psychometric, and multivariable analyses of fertility-related quality of life across demographic, clinical, and facility characteristics.

Steps to reproduce
This dataset was generated through a hospital-based cross-sectional survey conducted from May 2024 to January 2025 among 332 adults aged 18–49 years seeking fertility care at Kawempe National Referral Hospital and St. Francis Hospital Nsambya in Kampala, Uganda. To reproduce the dataset, apply the eligibility and consent procedures described in the study protocol, administer the same sociodemographic and infertility-related questionnaire and the 24-item Core Fertility Quality of Life (FertiQoL) instrument, and enter one de-identified record per participant. Code each Core FertiQoL response from 0 to 4. Reverse-score items Q4, Q11, Q14, Q15 and Q21. Calculate the raw domain scores as follows: Emotional—Q4R, Q7, Q8, Q9, Q16 and Q23; Mind–Body—Q1, Q2, Q3, Q12, Q18 and Q24; Relational—Q6, Q11R, Q15R, Q19, Q20 and Q21R; and Social—Q5, Q10, Q13, Q14R, Q17 and Q22. Convert each six-item domain to a 0–100 score using: scaled score = raw score × 25/6. Calculate the Core FertiQoL score by summing all 24 scored items and multiplying the total by 25/24. Higher scores indicate better fertility-related quality of life. Check response ranges, category coding, missing values and duplicate records, remove direct identifiers, and export the cleaned dataset as a CSV file. The optional Treatment FertiQoL module was not collected.
