Abstract A real-time data acquisition computer system has been developed using an IBM PC/XT or PC/AT personal computer. Although the program was specifically written for Raman spectroscopy, it includes many subroutines which are generally useful for laboratory work. The PC coordinates all activities of the system, including photon counting, adjustment of optics within the spectrometer, display of spectra in real time, and analysis of data during acquisition. All of the hardware components are standard... Title of program: SPEX8 Catalogue Id: ABBZ_v1_0 Nature of problem The problem is the development of a flexible real-time data acquisition system controlled by a personal computer. We specifically applied the program to Raman spectroscopy, but the interfacing and timing problems are common in many laboratory applications.
