Description

This dataset contains behavioural and electrophysiological measurements of substrate-borne vibration sensitivity in larval and adult Euroleon nostras. Behavioural data include startle and freezing thresholds in larvae and startle thresholds in adults, while adult electrophysiological data include frequency-dependent sensory thresholds, stimulus intensity–response relationships, spike rates and responses before and after selective receptor ablation. The study tested whether vibration sensitivity persists following metamorphosis, and how behavioural sensitivity differs between life stages. Adults showed pronounced low-frequency physiological tuning with peak sensitivity at 50 Hz, and SGO inactivation substantially increased thresholds, identifying the SGO as the principal adult vibration receptor. Larvae were markedly more behaviourally sensitive than adults, particularly for freezing responses, indicating strong life-stage differences in vibrational sensitivity associated with their contrasting ecologies.
