Description

The final stage of the study involved a thematic analysis aimed at interpreting the clusters and themes addressed in contemporary geoeconomic literature. A total of 251 publications belonging to a network of 10 clusters – which were identified during the analysis of bibliographic coupling – were included in the thematic coding. The coding was based on the title and abstract of each publication, as well as on a codebook developed during the pilot phase, which ultimately included six main codes (Concept, Statecraft, Power, Dependence, Competition, Security). The treatment of the relationship between geoeconomics and geopolitics in a given publication also served as a supporting code (Integrated, Institutional, Critical, Structural, Instrumental, Not_Clear). The synthesis of the bibliometric analysis with the results of thematic coding enabled a substantive interpretation of the clusters, which in turn served to develop a conceptual model describing the perception of geoeconomics in contemporary literature.
