The objectives of our study were to (1) highlight Category A agents with bioweapon potential that can cause cutaneous findings including anthrax, plague, smallpox, tularemia, and VHFs, (2) review their epidemiology, transmission, and dermatologic signs and symptoms and (3) offer an overview of the evidence-based strategies for diagnosis and management. Our supplemental materials provides associated images for each condition, information on reportable conditions (Supplemental Material 1), and overarching strategies for managing high-risk pathogens and bioterrorism threats (Supplemental Material 2).
