This database for Tamil vowels is created with speech utterances from Tamil-speaking persons in the age group 9-62. Speech recordings are collected from ten male and ten female speakers and stored in PCM wave format with a sampling rate of 16 kHz and 16 bits allocated for each speech sample. For each member, 12 alphabet sounds were recorded, and each alphabet was spoken 150 times. Individual speech wave files are labelled in the following format. F19Ta-Female speaker one aged 9 speaks the Tamil vowel "a". M721Ta- Male speaker, seven, aged 21, speaks the Tamil vowel "a". This database can be used to develop a speech-based Tamil vowel recognition system.
