Description

Functional and structural damages of the intestinal mucosal barrier significantly contribute to the translocation of microbial products from gut into bloodstream and it’s largely involved in the HIV-1 associated chronic immune activation. This microbial translocation is largely due to a progressive exhaustion of intestinal macrophage phagocytic function, which leads to the extracellular accumulation of microbial components and results in HIV-1 disease progression. This study aimed to better understand whether the modulation of gut microbiota can promote a balanced intestinal immune restoring in HIV-1-infected individuals
