Study Design: Thirty-eight women chose either etonogestrel implant (n=20) or IUD insertion (n=18). Acne was assessed on the day of contraceptive method insertion and 6 and 12 months later. Oily skin sensation was self-assessed. Data were analyzed using SPSS software (SPSS Inc. PASW Statistics for Windows, Version 18.0. Chicago, IL, USA). Continuous variable data were expressed as mean and standard deviation (SD). Qualitative variables are described as absolute (n) and relative (n %) frequencies. Student’s t-test for independent samples was used to compare means between groups. The Generalized Estimating Equation model assessed by Bonferroni was applied to simultaneously assess the dermatological parameters between and within groups. A binary logistic model was used to assess oily skin sensation, and an ordinal logistic model was used for the acne grade. The level of significance was set at 5% for all analyses.
