Description

World geographical distribution of phytomanaged polluted sites in the last 10 years. France is the leading country with the greatest number of publications (10), followed by India (8). Only 13 countries were involved in field phytomanagement studies. The total number of publications increased slightly until 2019. After 2019, a drastic increase was observed and the annual number of articles almost doubled compared with the previous year. Besides, to the best of our knowledge, only 32 out of 201 articles were field trials.

Steps to reproduce

In order to evaluate the number of investigations that have applied phytomanagement of polluted soils on field scale using aromatic crops, a choropleth map was created. The data were collected from Google scholar using the following keywords: “aromatic plant”, “polluted”, “contaminated”, “soil”, “site” and “field”. 201 results from 2013 to 2023 were evaluated. The choropleth map was generated using Geopandas and Bokeh, libraries of Python, an open-source software (The Python Foundation). Reviews, pot experiments, and hydroponic experiments were not considered.
