Mixture composition, liquid-phase fraction and -temperature in transcritical sprays

Spatially and temporally resolved data obtained by Raman spectroscopy on bulk mixture composition, liquid-phase fraction and liquid-phase temperature in ethanol sprays injected into a high-pressure high-temperature chamber at ambient pressures from 3 MPa to 8 MPa and ambient temperatures from 573 K to 923 K. Data from 32 averaged measurements per operational condition. Ethanol was used as fuel surrogate to exploit the Raman OH-band signal. Measurements sectional in 45° with respect to the spray axis at heights above the injector of 2.5 mm, 5 mm, 7.5 mm and 10 mm. For high ambient pressures and temperatures, temperatures of liquid-like fuel above the mixture critical temperature were detected, giving rise to the assumption that transcritical mixture formation takes place.
