Description

These experiments employed a validated model of bacterial-mediated failure of wound healing in mice (anastomotic leak). All mice underwent surgical anastomosis and introduction of either Enterococcus faecalis or Pseudomonas aeruginosa postoperatively. Mice were then randomized to receive either 50mM tranexamic acid or vehicle control via enema on postoperative days 1,2 and 3. Mice were sacrificed and healing was assessed on postoperative day 8 using a validated anastomotic healing score
