Description

115 female breast cancer patients were tested twice with the Kazakh version of the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI-II). After completing the BDI-II questionnaire on Day 1 patients were asked to complete the Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HDRS). HDRS was administered as a gold standard for the clinical diagnosis of a depressive disorder by the physician, who was blind to the results of the questionnaire. T

Means, sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value (PPV), negative predictive value (NPV), diagnostic likelihood ratio positive (DLR+), diagnostic likelihood ratio negative (DLR-) values were calculated. An analysis of receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves was conducted to determine the optimal cut-off score for the BDI-II in this population as a screening tool for depression. Test-retest reliability assesses how consistent responses provided by participants on two separate occasions are. We conducted reliability analyses using the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC). In our analysis of the ICC, less than 0.5 was considered poor, between 0.5 and 0.75 was moderate, between 0.75 and 0.9 was good, and greater than 0.9 was excellent (30). Internal consistency of the subscales was evaluated with Cronbach's alpha. Values ranging from 0.70 to 0.95 were considered acceptable, with a recommended maximum alpha value of 0.90 (31). IBM SPSS for Windows (version 21.0, SPSS INC., Chicago, IL, USA) was used to analyse the data.
