This repository contains the data that support the results presented in the manuscript submitted to Trees, Forests and People, which it is titled THE POTENTIAL FOR MITIGATING THE IMPACTS OF MICROCLIMATE REGULATION URBANIZATION IN INTERMEDIATE CITIES. The dataset includes field measurements, processed data tables, and analysis scripts used to assess the structure of urban forests and associated ecosystem services.

Steps to reproduce

The dataset was generated through field-based microclimate monitoring conducted in urban green areas of Villavicencio, Colombia, between February and April 2025. Seven types of urban green areas were selected and classified into five vegetation coverage categories based on tree density, impervious surface proportion, and shading conditions. Air temperature, relative humidity, and light intensity were measured in situ using a digital thermo-hygrometer and an infrared thermometer. Measurements were taken during daytime hours under comparable weather conditions to ensure consistency across sites. Spatial data were processed and analysed using QGIS software. Google Street View imagery was used to support the classification of surrounding urban density and vegetation structure. All measurements were georeferenced and stored in tabular format, with associated spatial layers provided as shapefiles. To reproduce the analysis, users can replicate the field measurements following the same classification scheme and measurement protocol, and apply spatial analysis using the provided datasets and QGIS workflows.
