Dam-break Simulation Results of the 10 Largest Dams in the State of Pernambuco - Brazil

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ This repository contains hydrodynamic simulation results of 10 largest dams in Pernambuco - Brazil: - Algodões - Saco II - Entremontes - Chapeu - Serrinha - Jucazinho - Lagoa do Carro - Tapacura - Goita - Pirapama The numbers associated with the folders are derived from SNISB classification. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Definitions C30 - Copernicus DEM with 30 m resolution L5 - LiDAR DEM with 5 m resolution ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Methods The model was run assuming a dam-break scenario following the breach hydrograph method presented in https://doi.org/10.1016/j.ijdrr.2024.104543. We run a local-inertial 2D hydrodynamic model (HydroPol2D) to adequately capture the flood wave dynamics by using an inflow dam-breach hydrograph boundary condition at the exit of the dam. Simulations were carried out with durations varying from 1 to 24 hours to allow correct flood propagation to downstream areas. Land use and land cover (LULC) rasters were derived from Dynamic World database and Manning's roughness coefficients were estimated according to the classifications of each LULC type.
