Data was gathered on physical documents then manually entered into a dataset due to the sensitive nature of incarceration research. Prior to the start of their parenting classes, incarcerated individuals from respective units would be gathered in a meeting room (males and females separately) and given a 10-minute description of the research and informed consent. Interested individuals would express their interest by placing their names on a roster form. At the beginning of the intervention (either the experimental or control group), the pretest data, including demographic information, as well as the instruments: the Knowledge of Behavioral Principles as Applied to Children, the Parental Attribution of Child Behavioral Measure, and the Parental Stress Index-4 were gathered. The intervention was disseminated for 9 sessions and the post-test data was collected within 1 week of the completion of the last session. Most commonly, post-test data was collected immediately following the last session within the same encounter (as it was built into the intervention protocol). The post-test data measures were the same as the pre-test data; however, the Treatment Acceptance Index was added, as well as a qualitative feedback form. Ensuring pre-post data matching for each participant required using initials for each on a roster sheet. After writing their names on the roster sheet, each participant was assigned a number. They were then given a manilla folder, labelled "Pre", with their respective number in which to place their data. At post-test data collection, they were given a manilla folder with the same number they were assigned on the roster sheet before their intervention with the word "Post" placed on it. Additionally, each measure given would have the number assignment and either "Pre" or "Post" labeled on it (in order to recover the data to the right folder in the event that data was mixed with other raw data). Folders were then safeguarded inside a locked file cabinet in the office of the project director, whose office was also locked. Important to note, no names were ever permitted on raw data due to the concern of identification of the vulnerable population. SPSS was used for the data set and the columns were labeled first with which group they were in, whether they completed their intervention class, followed by demographic information, pretest data for each measure, and then post data for each measure. Of note, standard scores were used for the PSI-4 (based on the Scudder et al. (2014) article this research was originally based on). Data entry was conducted as soon as possible following the completion of each group.
