Description

A 50 m-long and 4-inches diameter cylindrical near-surface core was drilled from the Late Jurassic (Oxfordian – Early Kimmeridgian) Hanifa Fm outcrop – Wadi Birk, Central Saudi Arabia (coordinate: 23.281240; 46.64420). The primary objective of this core is to provide a vertically continuous record of the stratigraphy to develop high-resolution sedimentological, petrographic, and petrophysical data set similar to those used in reservoirs from cored wells. The dataset consists of 136 thin section images scanned at 1750 dpi optical resolution using PathScan Enabler©, gamma-ray measurements using RS-230© spectrometer, and ultrasonic velocity (300 KHz) measurements using ultrasonic measurements apparatus integrated into Epslog Wombat© scratch-tester. The thin sections are in zipped jpg format, while gamma-ray and ultrasonic data are in an excel spreadsheet. We also provide a core description in jpg format to exemplify analysis that could be performed using these datasets.
