Description

Preferential breakage of dicentric chromosomes at telomere fusions backs up in yeast the essential protective function of telomeres. Guérin et al. show that this rescue pathway depends on tight Rap1 DNA-binding at the fusion and condensin-dependent dicentric refolding prior to DNA breakage at the abscission site.
