Data was downloaded on January 24 2024 from the FAOStat Detailed Trade Matrix. The database was queried for records of the ‘import quantity’ and ‘export quantity’ of ‘asses’, ‘buffalo’, ‘camels’, ‘cattle’, ‘chickens’, ‘ducks’, ‘geese’, ‘goats’, ‘horses’, ‘mules and hinnies’, ‘other rodents’, ‘rabbits and hares’, ‘sheep’, ‘swine and pigs’ and ‘turkeys’ between all reporter countries and all partner countries for the time period of 2005 to 2021 inclusive. Each record includes the year of trade, the number of animals traded (reported in tonnes, number of animals or number of 1000 animals), the direction of trade (import or export) and the source of the record (‘imputed value’, ‘figure from international organisations’ or ‘official figure’).
