Data and results for: Beyond the gas share: Diagnosing fossil contraction and fuel-mix shifts in OECD electricity
Description
Annual electricity generation, fuel prices and carbon prices for the 38 OECD member countries, 2003-2024, with the computed results underlying every table and figure in the related article "Beyond the gas share: Diagnosing fossil contraction and fuel-mix shifts in OECD electricity" and its Supplementary Material. data/oecd_electricity_2003_2024.csv holds the assembled panel (836 country-years, 33 columns): net electricity generation by source, net imports, net consumption and distribution losses, benchmark and national fuel prices, and carbon prices. data/variables.csv gives the definition, unit and source of each column. results.xlsx holds the computed results; its sheet "contents" lists each sheet with the tables and figures it supports. README.txt lists the files, units and sources. Generation is in TWh per year. Shares are in percent of total net generation and changes in percentage points. Block values are three-year means of annual values. Prices are nominal. Country codes are ISO 3166-1 alpha-3. Values are taken from: U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA), International Energy Statistics (accessed 2 October 2026); Ember, Yearly electricity data (accessed 2 August 2026); World Bank, Commodity Price Data (The Pink Sheet), January 2025; World Bank, Carbon Pricing Dashboard, May 2026; UK ETS auction prices and Carbon Price Support rates; and national fuel prices from U.S. EIA, Japan Customs, UK DESNZ, Korea Power Exchange EPSIS and German BAFA. The values of Korea's 11th Basic Plan are taken from the plan document (MOTIE Public Notice No. 2025-169, p. 51). Sections S1 and S6 of the Supplementary Material give details. Section 3 of the article describes the sample, the decomposition of the gas share into the fossil share of generation and gas's share of fossil generation, the logarithmic mean Divisia index (LMDI) link to gas-fired output, the comparison windows and the supporting analyses. Sections S1 and S6 of the Supplementary Material document the construction of the generation and price panels. The shares, three-year block means and decompositions follow from the generation columns of data/oecd_electricity_2003_2024.csv and the formulas in Section 3. The sheet "contents" in results.xlsx maps each results sheet to the tables and figures of the article and the Supplementary Material that it supports.
