These codes help to replicate all the empirical analysis in the article: “Predicting your children's returns to schooling”, Portuguese Economic Journal, revise and resubmit. It helps to replicate all the main results tables: Tables 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, A.3, A.4, A.5, A.6 and A.7. It also includes the GMM estimator function used to obtain the results. This research used The Beginning School Study, 1982--2002 (Log# 01293) dataset (made accessible in 2004, numeric data files). These data were collected by Karl L. Alexander and Doris R. Entwisle and are available through the Henry A. Murray Research Archive of the Institute for Quantitative SocialScience at Harvard University, Cambridge, Massachusetts (Producer and Distributor).

Steps to reproduce

Stata: Run “Format_BSS.do” first. Then run “Summary_Tables” to create Tables 6, 7 and 8. “Wage_exps_OtherVars3_analysis.do” creates Tables 12 and 13. Matlab: “New_exps_gmm.m” creates Tables 9, 10, 11, A.3, A.4, A.5, A.6 and A.7.
