There is an added value of Espejon´s limestones quarries (Soria) beyond its use as a decorative material for emblematic buildings, such as Toledo Cathedral, Burgos and Segovia, El Escorial o el Palacio Nuevo (Madrid). A wide perspective of the originals from the 16th to the 18th centuries reveals its significance as a natural resource not only in the regional socio-economic development but also in the stratification of the Old Regime society. The monarchy, San Jerónimo de Espeja Monastery and Concejos of Espejón and Huerta del Rey appeared fighting for its control as a source of power.
