Description

This dataset provides the replication materials for the manuscript entitled "Institutional coupling in China's energy transition policies: Grid-anchored coordination and task-specific rule configurations", submitted to Energy Policy. The study examines 301 Chinese national energy policy documents. The analytical materials include an index of 4,146 candidate clauses, 486 verified institutional-rule clauses, and coded relationships among nine energy subsystems. These records support the identification of 31 direct institutional interfaces and 395 policy–pair events. The dataset contains policy metadata, coded clause-level evidence, interface-level data, numerical results, Python analysis scripts, and documentation. The scripts reproduce the network measures, strength-preserving null-model comparisons (5,000 randomisations), policy-cluster bootstrap comparisons (6,000 replications), supplementary analyses, and associated figures. The README provides the file structure, software requirements, and instructions for reproducing the results. The underlying government policy texts are accessible through official Chinese government sources and are not redistributed. The package supports reproduction of the quantitative analyses from the coded evidence.

Steps to reproduce

The dataset accompanies the study "Institutional coupling in China's energy transition policies: Grid-anchored coordination and task-specific rule configurations". To reproduce the results: 1. Download and extract the replication package, preserving its directory structure. 2. Read README.md for the required Python environment, dependencies, file descriptions and execution instructions. 3. Use the supplied policy index, candidate-clause index and coded evidence dataset as the inputs for the quantitative analyses. The frozen evidence includes 486 verified clauses from 301 policy documents, representing 31 direct institutional interfaces and 395 distinct policy–pair events. 4. Execute the analysis scripts in the order specified in README.md to reproduce the weighted network measures, the strength-preserving null-model analysis (5,000 randomisations), and the policy-cluster bootstrap comparisons (6,000 replications). 5. Run the figure-generation scripts to reproduce the network analysis (Fig. 2), the comparison between co-mentions and verified interfaces (Fig. 3), the mechanism profiles and contrasts (Fig. 4), and the supplementary temporal diagnostics (Fig. S1). 6. Compare the generated tables and numerical results with the reference outputs included in the package. The package reproduces the quantitative analyses from the frozen coded evidence. The original government policy documents and the independent coders' working records are not redistributed. The README describes the scope and limitations of the supplied replication materials.
