Description

Present study investigates the long-term dynamics of riverbank erosion in Majuli, India—the world’s largest inhabited fluvial river island—over a 38-year period from 1986 to 2024, assessed at decadal intervals. To achieve this, five Landsat time-series datasets (1986, 1996, 2006, 2016, and 2024) were analysed to quantify erosion impacts and compute bankline retreat rates using the Digital Shoreline Analysis System (DSAS).
