List of Climate-Related Apocalyptic Predictions
Description
This spreadsheet contains a list of 79 predictions of climate-related "apocalyptic" scenarios made by various public figures. This list is part of the raw data examined to investigate how the communication of extreme predictions is made and interpreted. Our research suggests that predictions made by scientists and nonscientists differ in meaningful ways, that the conservatism of the predictions has increased over time, and that the medium of communication does not appear to matter. This data was compiled from various online sources and internet search, with the URLs to the underlying sources provided in the spreadsheet. The data was compiled by analyzing the text of the original sources. Data related to the speakers' birth year and background were obtained from public sources (Wikipedia, institutional biographies, etc).
