Description

This dataset provides high-resolution species distribution maps for 400 terrestrial vertebrates in Taiwan. Species distributions were estimated using species distribution modeling (MaxEnt) based on multiple open datasets of species occurrences and environmental variables, followed by expert review to refine the predicted ranges. For species with limited occurrence records, habitat suitability maps and expert knowledge were used to help fill data gaps. In this third version, the dataset structure was updated to improve usability: species distributions are now provided as separate shapefiles for each species rather than a single file containing all species. The shapefiles consist of 1-km resolution grids in the TWD97 TM2 121 coordinate system (EPSG:3826). Files are provided in both Mandarin and English and organized into four taxonomic groups (Amphibia, Reptilia, Aves, and Mammalia). Metadata describing taxonomy and model parameters are also included. Taxonomy follows the Taxa Tree of Taiwan Biodiversity Network (TBN, https://www.tbn.org.tw), and each species is assigned a stable taxonUUID. Details of taxonomic changes and range map updates are provided in CHANGELOG.txt.
