Description

This file contains the review methodology and literature synthesis table for the manuscript – Exchange Rate Volatility and Sectoral Export Performance in Ghana: A Theoretical and Empirical Review Review Methodology This study adopts a structured theoretical and empirical review methodology to examine the relationship between exchange rate volatility and sectoral export performance in Ghana and comparable developing economies. The review focuses on Ghana’s major export sectors—agriculture, minerals, manufacturing, oil, and services—and synthesises theoretical, empirical, and policy-oriented literature relevant to exchange rate dynamics and export competitiveness. A systematic literature search was conducted using major academic databases, including Google Scholar, Scopus, Web of Science, ScienceDirect, and JSTOR, alongside institutional sources such as the World Bank World Development Indicators, IMF eLibrary, and the Bank of Ghana. Key search terms included “exchange rate volatility”, “real exchange rate”, “export performance”, “sectoral exports”, and “Ghana exports”. The review includes peer-reviewed articles, institutional reports, working papers, and doctoral studies published in English between 1973 and 2025. Studies were selected based on their relevance to exchange rate movements, export performance, and sectoral trade dynamics in Ghana and other developing economies, while studies lacking methodological clarity or direct relevance were excluded. A thematic synthesis approach was employed to organise the literature into key areas: theoretical perspectives on exchange rate volatility and trade, exchange rate regimes in Ghana, sectoral export dynamics, trade openness, and empirical evidence on exchange rate-export relationships. Particular attention was given to sectoral differences between commodity exports and import-dependent sectors in explaining heterogeneous export responses to exchange rate volatility.
