Description

Data and replication files for Horn, Reinhart and Trebesch (2021) China's Overseas Lending, forthcoming in the Journal of International Economics. Our database contains estimates of debt owed to China by more than 100 developing and emerging market governments for each year 2000-2017. The zip file also contains the underlying micro-level “consensus” database covering 4900 loans and grants from Chinese official creditors 1949 to 2017. The Stata Do file "DebtStockEstimation" uses the micro-level loan data to produce our country-level debt stock estimates. The additional Stata and Excel files allow replicating all figures and main results of Horn, Reinhart and Trebesch (2021).
