Description

ABSTRACT Introduction. The article presents the results of intercultural analysis of the problem of cognitive-semantic modelling of the subjective image of old age in the modern sociocultural space. The work was carried out within the framework of the author's research project aimed at identifying trends in the conceptualization of age periods of the genesis of being in the linguistic consciousness of respondents of different age and sociocultural groups. The purpose of this article was to identify the cross-cultural features of the speech-mental objectification of the concept «Old age» in the linguistic picture of the modern information world. The subject of this research gains special relevance in the context of the demographic aging of humanity. Research Methods. The psycholinguistic content of the research determined the use of the method of conceptual analysis of vocabulary definitions to obtain an initial list of integrated meanings of the basic level of the concept «Old age». The directed associative experiment, content analysis and semantic-interpretive analysis of the data enabled to outline the associative field of the lexeme-stimulus indicating the absolute frequency of each associate in the plane of cross-cultural dimension. The sample was represented by respondents of different ages (from 17 to 93 years old) living in countries with different levels of socio-cultural and economic protection of aging (in Ukraine, USA, Switzerland). Results of the research. Based on the results of the study of 1845 associative responses-reactions and text fragments of respondents, the units of quantification of the semantic field of the concept under study were identified: the core (physiological segment of meanings) and the peripheral part (socio-cultural and psychological segments of meanings). It was proved that the socio-cultural continuum of designating the phenomenology of old age in the intercultural dimension of the linguistic picture of the world simulates a special semantic zone of the linguistic consciousness of an individual. Conclusions. It has been statistically confirmed that the main transformations of the subjective image of old age in the semantic space of a linguistic personality occur in the segment of sociocultural markers, which, in general, determines the variable strategies of personality aging. The obtained results significantly supplement the materials presented by the scientific community on cross-cultural trends in the conceptualization of indicators of human aging in modern society.
