This datafile contains summarized focal observations on nine African elephant calves collected from June 11-17, 2011 at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park in Escondido, CA, USA and R code written by Patrick T. Freeman. All data in the accompanying data files and corresponding R scripts can be used to reproduce the analyses, tables, and figures in the paper entitled "Age-based variation in the development of maternal independence, social behavior, and play in a captive population of African elephant calves."
