Data in this article presents the effects on the cultural activity preference from the three variables of participation motivation, lifestyle and aesthetic literacy of 468 overseas Chinese student in Taiwan. Discussion and analysis with systematic and organized formulas and calculation were made. Hence, self-conceptual lifestyles, externally-affected lifestyles, intellectual, competence, social, escape, art knowledge, ability for art application and evaluation, attitude for art and art involvement practice are used to evaluate as the reasons of the cultural activity preference. These statistics help the education researchers to understand the effect of the environment on transcultural learning behavior of the immigrants. At the same time, it acts as a reference for the social science researchers on their evaluation of local activity which aims for culture promotion for the immigrants.

Steps to reproduce

The subjective of this research is the overseas Chinese students from the Southeast Asian countries studying in Taiwan. They acquire the study abilities to hear, say, read and write in Chinese language, and grew up in a native environment with Chinese culture. The research survey held during March of 2017, last for 4 weeks, presenting gift vouchers worth NTD 50 to each participant. A total of 480 surveys distributed, 468 responded at the rate of 97%. Subjects were in a ratio of 60.3% male and 39.7% female. Their age ratio are 13.5% age under 18 years, 75.6% age from 19-22 years, 9.3% age from 23-28 years and 9.3% are above 29 years. In terms of nationality we have 88.9% from Malaysia, 7.0% from Indonesia, 2.8% from Myanmar, and 1.3% from Thailand, Brunei and Vietnam.
