LEVELS OF STRESS AND ANXIETY REPORTED BY UNDERGRADUATE PHYSIOTHERAPY STUDENTS DURING THEIR CLINICAL POSTING TIME: A SURVEY STUDY

ABSTRACT Background of the study: The prevalence of poor psychological health among medical students has increased nationwide. Being in medical school has always been an extremely stressful academic journey. High levels of mental distress affect students’ personal, social, emotional, and physical health and academic performance. Purpose of the study: To measure various levels of stress and anxiety among undergraduate physiotherapy students during their clinical posting at Maharishi Markandeshwar University Mullana, Ambala, Haryana. Methods and materials: An online cross-sectional survey study among undergraduate (2nd to 4th year) physiotherapy students was done. By using purposive sampling 267 undergraduate physiotherapy students were included in this study. A self-developed questionnaire was used for the data collection, which contains 22 domains 11 questions to assess anxiety levels and 11 questions to assess the stress levels of students. Results: Among all 267 undergraduate physiotherapy students. The present study assesses that 72.28% and 73.03% of undergraduate physiotherapy students fall into anxiety and stress respectively. In context with gender 66.66% of male students reported anxiety while 5.86% of female students reported anxiety, as well as 65.59% of male students, have symptoms of stress while 76.43% of females reported stress. Conclusion: The present study concluded that more than half of undergraduate physiotherapy students of MMIPR experienced some degree of anxiety and stress during their clinical posting time. Female students reported more anxiety and stress as compared to male students during their clinical posting time. Keywords: Anxiety, Stress, Physiotherapy Students, Clinical posting time
