Description

This dataset comprises single-county urbanized areas from the U.S. Census Bureau for the decades 1970-2010. It also contains agricultural land values from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. We used this data to test the hypothesis that small cities are affected differently than large cities by the factors identified by the Mills-Muth model as explaining city size. This dataset includes: urbanized area name, land area, population, median household income, agricultural land values, the percent of commuters using public transit, the percent of households with at least one vehicle available, and the year. 1970 data is from the 1972 county and city data book. 1980, 1990, and 2000 data is from the Decennial Censuses. 2010 data is from the American Community Survey 5-year estimates.
