Agricultural water productivity, drought exposure and water stress: a 52-country panel, 2002–2022
Description
This dataset contains the country-year panel assembled for a study of whether agricultural water productivity, the indicator used to monitor SDG target 6.4.1, registers climate risk. It covers 52 water-stressed agricultural economies over 2002 to 2022: 1,092 country-year observations and 38 variables, including the SDG 6.4.2 level of water stress, total and agricultural freshwater withdrawal, SPEI-based drought exposure, agricultural value added and its share of GDP, GDP per capita, financial access, irrigation dependence, rural population share, and agricultural water productivity in constant 2015 US dollars per cubic metre, together with the logarithmic transformations and interaction terms used in estimation. A per-country sample-selection record documents every eligibility decision, and a data dictionary states the construction, units, number of observations and source series of each variable. All underlying series are public, from the World Bank World Development Indicators, FAO AQUASTAT, FAOSTAT and the Global SPEI database (SPEIbase v2.10).
