Spreading basic life support skills among italian students: an inservice training program for teachers

Aim of the study For increase the population able to deal with emergencies the practice of life-saving manoeuvres should be universally acquired as an automatic skill since school, through frequent and practical retraining. Teachers’ Basic Life Support (BLS) education may be a strategic factor. The aim of the study is to assess the quality of an in-service training program for teachers taking into account: the ability of the students trained and the autonomy of the school in BLS education over time. Methods An in-service training program for teachers was provided in a lower secondary school of central Italy, involving basic life support instructors, teachers and their students in a chain process. After the course and six months later, students' ability to perform manoeuvres was assessed through a skill test.
