Description

Creativity is something that must be developed during school age and, therefore, must be incorporated into the classroom. In this sense, teachers play a fundamental role in building a successful creative environment. However, not enough attention is paid to creativity during teacher training. To help future teachers learn how to include creative thinking in their classes, we conducted a two-stage, qualitative study of a model based on analogical transfer. In the first stage, the pre-service teachers learn the theory behind the methodology, before practicing and discussing it in class. This stage then culminates in the pre-service teachers planning a class based on analogical transfer. During the second stage, the pre-service teachers then teach this class during their practicum. The results show that only teachers who completed both of these stages were able to fully adopt the methodology. This study contributes to the literature by providing a teaching model that incorporates creativity and which can be applied to any subject-based class during initial teacher training. In this sense, our study was applied to physics and mathematics, two subjects which often fail to address the development of creative thinking.
